Who Should We Sign?

Over the past two weeks, co editor Jerry asked who would be the best loan player to snap up in the January transfer window. The results weren`t at all surprising.

Evatt And Hoolahan

Blackpool fans have seen two big differences so far this season. A winger who is tricky and has an end product, plus a central defender who is, in a word – massive. Wes Hoolahan (who was snapped up from Livingston for the season) has had League One defences chasing shadows down the left wing all year whilst Ian Evatt (who is here until January 3rd from QPR) at the heart of a sturdy defence is a man mountain, and some say better than former skipper, Peter Clarke. It was hardly surprising these two topped our poll as they`ve both been huge hits at Bloomfield Road and have drawn most of this seasons plaudits. Maybe the only minor shock is the size of the gap between them percentage-wise. Although, fans pay for entertainment, and Hoolahan surely gives the average fan more than Ian Evatt, but at the end of the day that`s his job, and Evatt`s is completely different. The fact their combined percentage is 83% speaks volumes.

Gillett And Dickinson

We cannot forget the impact both Gillett and Dickinson have had on the club. Both have since rejoined their parent clubs, with Dicko managing to break into Stokes` first team, whilst Gillett has joined another League One team, Bournemouth – who The Seasiders play on Saturday. I think the fact both weren`t here for as long as Wes and Ian means they were never really going to be top, but the small percentages show that the fans still care for what they managed to achieve at the club in their short time here.

Simon Gillett joined in August, and looked overawed in his first game, against Rotherham where he was played in the middle of midfield. Manager Simon Grayson then switched him to the right wing where he blossomed and became a huge hit with ‘pool fans. His niggles against opponents made him a difficult player to play against. Kris Taylor found this when Blackpool played host to Oldham in September in the 2-2 draw.

Carl Dickinson was just a man who wore his heart on the sleeve of his Blackpool shirt. I was lucky enough to witness his outstanding display on debut away at Crewe where was obviously going to be compared with Andy Taylor (who was on loan at the seaside last term) who made his Crewe debut. As it was, the two left backs where the best players on the pitch. But it wasn`t his performance that caught the eye with supporters; it was his great passion at the full time whistle and also in the final minute when Shaun Barker nodded home to win the game. Clenched fists and a roar of “******* get in” along with “Come On!” made fans minds up – this was a lad with passion and guts – as he waved to his father, who had come to watch him in the away end.
