Here at Blackpool VitalFootball we have decided that it is time for a fans website to give a balanced view on how the last match panned out.
What Will We Do?
We are going to recieve the opponents managers interview with their local radio station, and comment on it from a Blackpool point of view. This will hopefully then give Blackpool fans a balanced opinion on how the game went. This feature will normally only be a small piece and we hope fans will appreciate some differing comments to the Blackpool managements post match.
Martin Foyle – Port Vale
When asked about a morale boosting victory, Foyle replied: “Very important 3 points, after 2 defeats. Last weeks game we were magnificent and got nothing. Today (Saturday) we were average and we got away with it. Blackpool were the better side in the 1st half, but I thought our two centre halves were excellent today.”
So perhaps we could have won the game? To say that we were the better side, then say the two central defenders were excellent speaks volumes on the pattern of the game. We are fine getting to the final third, but then we seem to get snuffed out to easily by any defence.
Vale Changes…
It was pointed out that Foyle made changes, to which he said: “I want to try a few things. I wanted to have a look at Danny (Sonner) in the middle. The last team here (at Vale Park) pushed out two midfield players back into our defence. I tried to give Danny (Sonner) the legs to carry us forward.”
This clearly shows he’s a thinking manager, and looked to overcome a difficulty Vale had in their previous home match by trying new things.
Credit And The Bench…
“Give credit to Blackpool. On another day they would have won the game.”
“I looked at their bench, when Burgess and Parker came on, it was just like last week (against Doncaster where Vale conceded twice in the last two minutes to lose 2-1) but thankfully they didn`t have the impact like last week.”
He clearly acknowledged that our bench was of a good standard, and could have caused serious problems.
Mark McGregor
“Mark McGregor had a big point to prove. He was magnificent for us, and is a super pro. Players like that dictate the dressing room.”
This makes me wonder why Mark was let go? I never really liked him, but perhaps that was becuase whatever the previous manager touched, turned bad? He was man of the match, and looked to give Port Vale a lift throughout the game. He also played centre back, where he looked very shaky for Blackpool.
Hard Work And The Ref…
“Hard work gets rewards.”
On answering a question about not getting a clean sheet, Martin Foyle said: “The ball was 10 yards out for a throw in. But we should have defended the corner better.”
A slice of luck for the goal it seems, with the linesman not spotting that the ball was miles out of play. He also points out that it was poor defending and not a good set piece that resulted in a goal.
