The second round draw for the 2017/18 EFL Trophy will take place later this evening.

With the first round and the initial group stage now behind us, it’s time to move onto sudden death in the competition and a more regularly acceptable series of group games.

The second round draw takes place on Friday November 10 at Wembley Stadium ahead of the England v Germany friendly. The draw will be conducted by U17 World Cup winning manager Steve Cooper and Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier – the BBC’s Mark Clemmit will oversee things.

Build up to the draw begins at 6.30pm and most people will be watching to see if it’s another calamity to be honest given draws so far this season.

32 clubs will be involved and the draw is split into North/South pots.

Winners of the initial Group stage will be at home, with away sides drawn from the runners up in the same region, however not if they competed in round one. That means there will be two draws, Draw A and Draw B.

The technical blurb from the EFL.

Draw A will consist of the four winners from Groups A, B, C & D and the four runners up from Groups E, F, G & H. Numbers 1-4 will be placed in the winners pot and numbers 13-16 in the runners-up pot. Starting with the winners pot, numbers will be drawn on an alternate basis for the first four ties. Draw B will consist of the four winners from Groups E, F, G & H and the four runners up from Groups A, B, C & D. Numbers 5-8 will be placed in the winners pot and numbers 9-12 in the runners-up pot. Starting with the winners pot, numbers will be drawn on an alternate basis for the remaining four ties.

This process will then be repeated for the Southern draw.

Ball numbers shortly.
