Alex Baptiste has picked up the Vital Man of the Match award for his performance in the opening game of the season against Hull.

Despite Gary Taylor-Fletcher getting all the headlines for his wondergoal, Baps was the clear winner of the post-match vote on our forums, with his tackle on Hull striker Matt Fryatt drawing particular praise.

Playing at right back die to the absence of Neal Eardley, Baps also contributed a lot to our attacking phases of play.

However, it was his defensive play that saw him take the award ahead of runner-up Craig Cathcart, as he kept winger Robbie Brady quiet as the Seasiders fought their way to a clean sheet.

Meanwhile, you can still rate referee Scott Mathieson’s performance on our forums.

He is – rather harshly in my opinion – currently heading for a mark of just under 7/10, but there’s still time for that to change.

SeasideEssexXile will of course update us on the full ‘Men in Black’ table as the season progresses.
