Baptiste’s Championship Rise Continues

Alex John-Baptiste is proof as to why Blackpool should be dipping into the lower divisions for talented footballers.

Despite not making his Seasiders bow until November away (perhaps highlighting one of a few failings which fall at Simon Grayson’s door) at then runaway leaders Wolves, Baptiste is showing what he can do for ‘Pool on a weekly basis now – and is again in the ‘Championship Team of the Week’ which now makes that twice in three weeks.

AJB has played just 11 times this campaign after he’s been unfortunate to lose his place to Shaun Barker, who seemingly could do no wrong with the management until recently, but has now cemented the right back slot as his own after Reggie’s move inside to the middle.

Dare I say Baptiste could be a contender for player of the season as he consistantly shows why he is at home at this level as his team mates’ performances fluctuate around him.

Team of the week:
Smith (Forest)
Baptiste – Williamson (Watford) – Morgan (Forest) – Lynch (Forest)
McGugan (Forest) – Cowie (Watford) – Miller (Ipswich) – Surman (Saints)
Clarke – Tudgay (both Wednesday)
