The Croydon Advertiser has crowned Blackpool defender Shaun Barker as the best away player to visit Selhurst Park last season.
The award follows Barker’s performance in the Seasiders’ 1-0 win against Crystal Palace in January, a game in which they were reduced to 10 men for a large part of.
The paper states that ‘After keeper Paul Rachubka was sent off three minutes in, Palace looked set for a win.
‘But DJ Campbell’s penalty coupled with a colossal defensive display from Barker thwarted Palace.’
Members of the messageboard who attended the game certainly seem to agree with the award, pinpointing Barker’s performance as the best in a superb overall team performance. Indeed, it can be argued that the Palace game kickstarted Barker’s season, which, until that point, had been abysmal.
The news comes with a claim from the Blackpool Gazette that Derby have now offered £400,000 plus Liam Dickinson for the rejuvenated defender.
