‘Reggie’ was a mainstay in the Seasiders Promotion winning side last season after signing in the summer – albeit after a lengthy dispute over a transfer fee with his former club Rotherham – for a fee of £30,000 (allegedly).

An influential player last season, he was given the captain’s armband on numerous occasions when club captain, Michael Jackson, was unable to play – only missing one game all season through suspension after being sent off in the away game to Yeovil.

BlackpoolVital had the honour of presenting the centre back turned right back their Player Of The Year award at the end of season awards ceremony earlier this year for his ‘vital’ role in the historic promotion.

He also played a huge part in the playoff campaign, getting the ball rolling against Oldham in the first leg playoff at Boundary Park with a bullet header that will remain in the memories of ‘Pool fans everywhere for some time to come.

The new deal will keep Reggie at the club until June 2010 with an option for the club to keep him at the club for a further year into the 2011 season.

A timely boost to the ‘Pool as they look towards this weekend’s fixture against Southampton as Barker’s fellow defensive partner, Ian Evatt returns to action tonight in the Lancashire Cup game at Bloomfield Road against Accrington Stanley (KO; 7pm).
