Blackpool President Valeri Belokon has admitted exclusively to Vital that the South Stand should be open for business on Saturday.

The Latvian, who recently appointed Normunds Malncas as his new advisor at Bloomfield Road, said: ‘I hope, as works are under way, that we will open the new stand on 19 December 2009.’

However, the odds of that happening are extremely unlikely as there have been no noises from the club as to when the South will open.

Ticket sales for the game and such haven’t been driven by the new stand opening.

Belokon, who keeps in regular touch with this website, went onto say that: ‘If not at this date [19th December], I believe the Jimmy Armfield South Stand will be opened on New Year’s Eve.’

It’s unclear whether he meant for the Sheffield Wednesday game on the 28th or in time for the FA Cup clash against Ipswich in the New Year.

When pressed on the East Stand situation, Belokon stated that: ‘When everything is finished I would be very happy to see an increase in fans’ interest and their support of Blackpool Football Club. We need your enthusiasm and devotion that help us to do our job.’
