Newport County’s official Twitter page has tonight announced that defender Paul Bignot has joined Blackpool on trial with a view to a move to Bloomfield Road, and that the 25 year old could play some part in ‘Pool’s game against Rangers on Tuesday evening.

Bignot (who is a right back) began his career at Crewe, making 21 league appearances for them before joining non-league Kidderminster Harriers.

After being released by Kidderminster, he joined Newport where he has shone, attracting interest from clubs higher up the pyramid.

Indeed, earlier this summer he enjoyed a trial at Leicester, with it being reported that the Welsh club would be prepared to let him leave for a six figure sum.

Knowing Ian Holloway’s connections with Dario Gradi, it is very possible that the Crewe manager has tipped him off about Bignot, despite letting him go earlier in his career.

‘Pool are believed to have a few trialists in their ranks at the moment, with Scottish full back Bob Harris known to still be at the club after travelling to Portugal with the first team squad last week.
