Blackpool’s reserves went down away at Accrington Stanley today 3-1, but the match saw valuable run out for Keith Southern who is recovering from an injury.

The new Latvian goalkeeper, Pavels Steinbors was in the sticks, whilst Stuart Green played an hour before being replaced by Matty Kay.

Blackpool team:
Steinbors
Coid – Jackson – Lawlor – Tierney
Wiles – Southern – Green – Hills
Marsh – Mitchley

On loan defender Phil Doughty played at the heart of Stanley’s defence, whilst former seasider Liam Richardson started in midfield for the home side. With Accrington’s poor form at the moment, manager John Coleman must have seen fit to give the first team extra games, and named 12 out of the 16 that lost to Wycombe at the weekend.

At the break, the game remained finely balanced at 0-0, but Phil Marsh should really have given Pool the lead, after he rounded the Stanley goalkeeper but screwed his effort wide, in front of the on looking Simon Grayson and Tony Parkes.

Shortly after half time Accy took the lead through James Harris, who pounced after a smart stop by Steinbors (that name is taking some getting used to!). This sparked two changes by Steve Thompson, as he replaced both Michael Jackson and Stuart Green on the hour mark with Ashley Eastham (a new name to me?) and Matty Kay.

Eight minutes later the game was as good as dead. Shaun Whalley dribbled clear of the Blackpool defence before going around Steinbors and placing into the unguarded goal to make it 2-0.

Whalley doubled his tally late on after he intercepted an Eastham back pass and slotted home to make it three, after The Seasiders had taken off Simon Wiles for Dominic Merella.

Danny Mitchley scored late on to continue his impressive run of form in the reserves and youth team to make it slightly respectable at 3-1.

Final Score: Accrington 3 – 1 Blackpool.

The most important thing out of the game was the 90 minutes Southern got through, and hopefully he will be in contention for Wolves, if not Hull.
