Breathing space

Reflecting on Saturday’s win and the over-riding feeling is of relief. Ultimately it doesn’t matter what was good and what wasn’t about the performance, only that we took the three points.

Survival now seems assured not least because of the five teams – Norwich, Barnsley, Coventry, Leicester and Southampton – that separate Pool and third bottom Sheffield Wednesday.

It’s not long now before we can sit back and take stock of 46 games completed in the Championship. Congratulations will be in order for Larry and all involved at BFC for achieving the season’s objective of survival.

But it has been more than survival. It’s been about a never-say-die attitude. A work ethic that would put most teams to shame. And, even more impressively, a willingness to attack expensively assembled teams and give them a good going over. Five goals against Charlton being the prime example.

The adjulations will no doubt start in earnest when Watford visit in two weeks’ time. This time last year we were cheering the boys onto Wembley. This time around the celebrations should be louder and more vociferous because, as Grayson and Southern have already hinted, the achievement of staying up eclipses that of getting up.

But let’s first concentrate on celebrating our survival by beating Plymouth. If Preston can nick a draw at Home Park despite being two goals down, surely we can take the points on our final away day?

Meantime, looking back at Saturday’s win, for those of you who haven’t seen the highlights, I recommend you watch them. In particular look out for Jorgensen’s somewhat bizarre goal celebration. Spinning around like a rotary blade is certainly a new one and it definitely challenges Burgess’s bird flapping for celebration of the season!
