Blackpool striker Ben Burgess has joined League One newboys Notts County on a free transfer.

The 28-year-old wasn’t offered a new contract at Bloomfield Road following promotion to the Premier League but looked set to be handed terms this week to stick around with the squad.

However, he’s chosen to pen a two-year contract at Meadow Lane, where he’ll be reunited with former Blackpool loanee Lee Hughes.

Burgess had his critics on the seaside but it cannot be doubted that he brought a presence up front and at 6ft 3, was vital when defending corners.

Burgess said: ‘I’m really excited. It’s a great stadium and the pitch looks really good.

‘Obviously I’m happy with everything and I can’t wait.’
