Newspaper reports are today suggesting that Blackpool have taken French right back Jean Calve on trial, and that the player will feature today for the Seasiders against Bristol City.

The player has been on trial at Sheffield United (where he impressed), but it now appears that the Seasiders want to steal him from under the Blades’ noses.

Of course though, Calve could just be with the Seasiders to make up their numbers given Neal Eardley’s injury and the fact that the club are currently pursuing Swansea’s Angel Rangel.

Then again, like all of us, perhaps Ollie was under the impression that his bid for Rangel had been rejected, hence the move for Calve? Or perhaps he wants to see if Calve’s good enough because he would present a cheaper option than Rangel, leaving more money to spend on other targets? Who knows.

One thing is for sure; Calve is available on a free after a contractual dispute with his club Nancy.
