Barnsley: New Barnsley manager Keith Hill has been busy. The former Rochdale man (who replaced Mark Robins earlier this summer) has already signed Colchester’s David Perkins, Chesterfield’s Craig Davies, Rochdale’s Scott Wiseman and Matt Done, Brighton’s Jim McNulty, our own Rob Edwards, and Derby’s Miles Addison (on loan). Jason Shackell has left the club though, signing for Derby for around £1 million.
Birmingham: Another club who’ve had a change of the managerial front: Chris Hughton replacing Alex McLeish. Prior to McLeish’s departure, the Blues had signed Chris Burke from Cardiff, Dundee United’s Morgaro Gomis, and Coventry’s Marlong King. Since Hughton has arrived they’ve also added Adam Rooney of Inverness to their ranks, whilst Craig Gardner has left for Sunderland. Perhaps more pressingly though, Blues owner Carson Yeung has been charged with money-laundering.
Brighton: It’s been a topsy-turvy summer for Brighton. Star striker Glenn Murray has left for Palace, midfielder Elliott Bennett has joined Norwich, and defender Jim McNulty has joined Barnsley. They’ve also lost their chief scout (this is beginning to sound very familiar!). However, the Seagulls board have backed manager Gus Poyet financially when it has come to replacing such key players (let’s hope that that also sounds familar in the coming weeks!); they’ve signed Watford’s Will Buckley for £1 million and Peterborough’s Craig Mackail-Smith for around £3 million. They’ve also signed Dennis Bergkamp’s nephew and are planning a new training ground.
Bristol City: City have signed Plymouth’s Yannick Bolasie, Rotherham’s Ryan Taylor and Leed’s Neil Kilkenny. However, they have lost goalkeeper Stephen Henderson, who is believed to be joining Portsmouth.
Burnley: The main news at Burnley has been off the pitch thus far; first team coach Stuart Gray, reserve-team coach Ashley Hoskin, and player-coach Graham Alexander have all left the club. Midfielder Chris McCann has signed a new two year deal, however.
Cardiff: Daves Jones out and Malky Mackay in on the managerial front, and the Scot has been busy in the transfer market. Dundee United’s Craig Conway, Watford’s Don Cowie, Forest’s Rob Earnshaw and Middlesbrough’s Andy Taylor have all signed for the Welsh side so far. Mackay’s also been quick to change his backroom staff; the likes of assistant manager Terry Burton making way for three arrivals from Watford’s backroom staff.
Coventry: It’s been a difficult summer for new Coventry boss Andy Thorn so far; Marlon King and Keiren Westwood (Sunderland) have both left, with only goalkeepers Chris Dunn and Joe Murphy arriving thus far.
Palace: Neil Danns (Leicester) and Adam Barrett (Bournemouth) have left, whilst Alassane N’Diaye has joined Southend on loan. Eagles manager Dougie Freedman has strengthened his deck however with the arrivals of Brighton’s Glenn Murray and Fulham’s Kagisho Dikgacoi.
Derby: Busy times at Derby. In have come Nathan Tyson (Forest), Jason Shackell (Barnsley), Craig Bryson (Kilmarnock), Theo Robinson (Millwall), Jamie Ward (Sheffield United), Adam Legzdins (Burton), Chris Maguire (Aberdeen), Frank Fielding (Blackburn). The only departure so far has been Miles Addison joining Barnsley on loan.
Doncaster: Just two arrivals to report on at Doncaster; Sheffield Wednesday’s Tommy Spurr and Bury’s Kyle Bennett.
Hull: Three arrivals here: Manchester United’s Joe Dudgeon, Leicester’s Jack Hobbs and Forest’s Dele Adebola.
Ipswich: Michael Chopra has signed from Cardiff, Ivar Ingimarsson has signed from Reading, Nathan Ellington has signed from Watford, and Aaron Cresswell has signed from Tranmere. Connor Wickham is obviously the big departure here, joining Sunderland for over £8 million. On a smaller scale, defender Troy Brown has joined Rotherham.
Leeds: Not a good summer so far for Leeds. Neil Kilkenny has joined Bristol City, Bradley Johnson has joined Norwich, youngster Elliott Kebbie has joined Barcelona, whilst Kasper Schmeichel has joined Leicester. Paul Rachubka is the only arrival for Simon Grayson’s side so far.
Leicester: Trying to keep up to date with goings on at Leicester is nigh on impossible, but here goes… In: Neil Danns (Palace), Kasper Schmeichel (Leeds), Sean St. Ledger (Preston), David Nugent (Portsmouth), Lee Peltier (Huddersfield). Out: Jack Hobbs (Hull). Oh, and they’ve also renaned their stadium to something stupid.
Middlesbrough: Defender Andy Taylor has joined Cardiff… and that’s about it. Oh, but they do have ex ‘Pool midfielder Malaury Martin on trial.
Millwall: Star striker Steve Morison has joined Norwich, whilst fellow striker Theo Robinson (Derby), Neil Harris and Ashley Grimes have also left the London club. In come Charlton’s Therry Racon and Sheffield United’s Darius Henderson. Manager Kenny Jackett has also signed a new deal.
Forest: Davies out, McClaren in is the headline news. Also leaving the City Ground are Kelvin Wilson, Rob Earnshaw, Dele Adebola and Julian Bennett, who have signed for Celtic, Cardiff, Hull and Sheffield Wednesday respectively. Their only arrival? Andy Reid (guffaw).
Peterborough: Mackail-Smith joining Brighton is the big news. Charlie Lee has also left the club, joining Gillingham. Posh’s only arrivals so far are from Manchester United (‘Daddy, daddy, help me out!’) – Ryan Tunnicliffe and Scott Wootton on loan, and Nicky Ajose permanently.
Portsmouth: Pompey have been bought by Convers Sports Initiatives, who seem to have pumped a bit of money in. They’ve signed David Norris from Ipswich, Jason Pearce from Bournemouth, and look set to sign Bristol City’s Stephen Henderson and Derby’s Luke Varney. David Nugent (Leicester) has left the club however, as has first team coach Ian Woan (Watford).
Reading: The only news at Reading at present in Ivar Ingimarsson leaving the club to join Ipswich.
Southampton: No news. Seriously. Oh, ok then, Rickie Lambert’s signed a new deal.
Watford: Malky Mackay gone. Danny Graham (Swansea) gone. Will Buckley (Brighton) gone. Nathan Ellington (Ipswich) gone. Half their coaching staff (Cardiff) gone. New manager Sean Dyche faces an uphill battle methinks, although he has brought in Ian Woan (Pompey) as his new assistant and Scunthorpe’s David Mirfin to get the ball rolling.
West Ham: Big Sam has replaced Avram Grant, and despite losing Demba Ba and Radoslav Kovac, the Hammers look like they mean business with the signing of Newcastle’s Kevin Nolan. Abdoulaye Faye has also arrived from Stoke.
