Coleman Talks About Blackpool Loan

Despite making just twelve appearances during his loan spell from Everton last season, Seamus Coleman has become a Blackpool legend.

His arrival and sensational performances from right back coincided with Blackpool’s surge into the Premier League, and speaking to both the local rag in Everton and Everton’s official site, it’s clear that Seamus enjoyed his time at the seaside as much as we enjoyed having him:

‘The Championship is a strong league. There’s a lot of big, physical players and the goals are flying in.

‘I tried my best to work on my defending and hopefully it’s helped. It was more a physical task. Obviously it’s a good standard of a league, but then you go up to the Premier League and it shoots up a level. It’s tough down there, maybe not as quick on the ground, but challenging.

‘When you’re playing you don’t feel the pressure. But at Blackpool before the play-off final I felt the nerves. It helped me a lot playing in such a big occasion and it’s helped me as a player.

‘Football-wise it was one of the highlights of my career so far. Playing at Wembley is a dream for most kids growing up and to do it so early in my career was brilliant. The fact that we won made it even better!’

Speaking about Ian Holloway, Coleman said:

‘He is like you see on the telly! Mad as a hatter and full of jokes, always making you laugh. But when it comes to game time he is well-prepared and you definitely wouldn’t want to be on the wrong side of him either.’

Coleman also said that he was looking forward to returning to Bloomfield Road next season in Everton colours, perhaps quashing faint hopes of a second loan spell at Bloomfield Road, and that whilst he feels that he has the attributes to play further up the field, he is happy playing at right back.

Meanwhile, the Seasiders are being linked with a loan move for Manchester United’s young defender Ritchie De Laet.
