Karl Oyston has today told the Blackpool Gazette that the new East Stand at Bloomfield Road will definitely house home supporters.

The temporary structure, which is thought to increase capacity to 17,600, was originally planned to be for away fans only.

However, the sheer volume of season ticket applications means that the Gene Kelly (if we can still call it that) will be split between visitors and locals.

Oyston said: ‘The southern end of the east stand will be the area that houses away fans, 2,500 of them. Six hundred of those we are hoping to accommodate for corporate packages in the first floor of the south stand.

‘We are delighted with the interest and the take-up we’ve had from home fans. It was beyond our wildest dreams and we hope it continues.

‘We will be selling season tickets in the northern end of the east stand and we hope that fills up with Blackpool fans as well.’

With almost all Premiership teams likely to take up their allocation of 2,500 it will mean that the Seasiders hit the 17,000 barrier more often than not.

The Chairman spoke about using the corporate facilities in the South stand for away fans. This perhaps doesn’t mean that they will be watching the game there – the club may only use the South for a meal and drinks before the game and allow visitors to then take their seats in the East, with access to the corperate area.

Oyston went onto say: ‘There is a lot of unseen work that we’ve got to do, mainly in the media department and regulartory stuff – the Premier League are very strong on that.’

Nothing was said about media facilities in the East stand, where it was thought press and TV would be put.

However, Blackpool Vital has got hold of the floor plans for the East, which indicates that the media will be splitting home and away fans right down the middle. To look at these plans, click here >>>
