Better late than never eh?

Vital Blackpool are delighted to announce – at long last – that Matt Gilks has been crowned as our Player of the Year for the 2011/12 season after a closely fought vote.

The goalkeeper was Mr Consistent last term (only missing games through injury) and led the voting from the start although had to hold off a strong challenge from fans’ favourite Tom Ince to seal the win.

Alex Baptiste was unable to replicate his 2008/9 victory, finishing third.

Stephen Crainey, Barry Ferguson, Matt Phillips and Kevin Phillips were the other players to make the shortlist.

Gilks now enters the ‘Hall of Fame’ alongside previous winners Ian Evatt, Charlie Adam, Alex Baptiste, Kaspars Gorkss and Shaun Barker.
