Goodbye Bloomfield Road?

It was a report that appeared yesterday and has been confirmed by the club today; BFC are considering selling the naming rights to Bloomfield Road.

The thinking behind this is maximising the Seasiders’ earning potential whilst in the Premier League, allowing them to compete more evenly with the nineteen other clubs.

Four clubs in the division currently have stadium sponsors; Arsenal, Bolton, Stoke and Wigan, and are all said to have profited massively from such a move.

Speaking to The Gazette today, BFC’s business development manager said:

‘Now we are in the Premier League and the ground has a fourth stand it’s a whole new kettle of fish for exposure.

‘We are looking at preferably a multinational. If we get derisory offers or partners who aren’t good enough, we will leave it as it is.

‘Hopefully we could get a multi-million pound deal.

‘We’ve got to look at every possible income revenue. We sell out every game but that’s 6,000 to 10,000 tickets less than the next team. Every penny counts – it’s all well and good saying that we’ve got £90 million but every team gets funded the same.’

Personally I’m a bit of a traditionalist on this one and would be loathe to sell the naming rights of Bloomers, unless it was for mega millions that was immediately pumped back into the club rather than being buried with the Ormerod money.

What do you think though? As always, you can have your say on our forums.
