GTF is a gem

The number 12 has, arguably, been Blackpool’s best player so far this season and he was the outstanding Pool player is yesterday’s home defeat to Sheffield United.

A far cry indeed from this time last year when there were question marks over GTF’s role in the team. That despite the midfielder scoring at Wolves and in the home win over Hull in the early part of last season.

Many fans were unsure of Taylor-Fletcher’s ability to play in the Championship, particularly as a winger, having mostly played as a striker with former sides Lincoln and Huddersfield.

But gradually GTF settled into life at Blackpool and he was soon looking a solid, reliable and important member of the first team.

Fletch scored two more goals, including an outrageous chip, in the 5-3 hammering of Charlton. Further goals against Leicester and Barnsley at Bloomfield Road underlined Fletcher’s value to the team and had the fans delighted with the scouser.

This season we have seen another dimension to GTF’s game. Perhaps GTF was, at times, forgotten about on the right-hand side because of the dominance of Wes Hoolahan on the opposite flank last year. But with Wes gone, GTF has grown in stature and desire in carrying the team forward.

Taylor-Fletcher has improved his skill and control on the ball no end, as in evidence at Bloomfield Road yesterday. His forward runs are no longer wasted by a poor pass or lack of control. Instead GTF is waltzing across the pitch looking lively and creative with an end product. These are great signs for the 27 year-old and for Simon Grayson who has always stuck by his signing. Expect to see more goals and more assists from GTF throughout this season.

One final thought, is right midfield Taylor-Flethcer’s best position? Should he be deployed as a striker? Please discuss!

Sorry tangerines, but it was men against boys yesterday, good luck for the season, but you are going to have to get some strikers in pretty quickly to survive.

Hmm, wouldn’t agree with that to be honest.
