It’s not the knighthood we were all hoping for but nevertheless, everyone will be delighted that Jimmy Armfield’s community work has finally been recognised with a CBE.
The honour follows his OBE that was awarded in 2000 for services to football.
Speaking about the honour, Armfield joked:
‘I’m very grateful for the award – and just grateful to be here!
‘I like to think this is an honour for Blackpool, the football club and for all the organisations I’m involved with.
‘I get a lot of pleasure out of the work I do and the people I meet.’
With the ‘Jimmy Armfield South Stand’ set to open this year, as well as the planned creation of a statue at Bloomfield Road to honour him, 2010 promises to be a big year for ‘Sir Jim’.
