Blackpool have this afternoon announced that former striker John Murphy has rejoined the club as a coach, filling the void created by Steve McPhee’s departure.

The 34 year old spent seven years as a player at Bloomfield Road between 1999 and 2006, scoring 83 goals in 229 league games, becoming a modern day ‘Pool legend in the process.

Having recently retired from the game, Murphy was exploring new career paths – including labouring – when the call from the Seasiders came through.

Murphy began his new role today and is expected to make the journey to Sheffield Wednesday on Thursday as part of the coaching staff.
