As The Jam once sang; ‘That’s entertainment’.
A crowd of over 12,000 were treated to a six goal thriller at Bloomfield Road tonight as Blackpool moved back into the playoff places in the Championship courtesy of a 3-3 draw with Leicester.
Following Saturday’s win over Brighton, ‘Pool manager Ian Holloway stuck with same XI, making just one change to his bench; Ludovic Sylvestre replacing Angel Martinez.
The opening half hour of the game was the calm before the storm… indeed, the only incident of note was the booking of David Nugent for diving.
In the 33rd minute though, the game sprang to life; Kevin Phillips outjumping Paul Konchesky at the back post to head home a Tom Ince corner.
Just four minutes later though, the Foxes were level; Danny Drinkwater’s through ball finding Jermaine Beckford who finished clinically past Matt Gilks.
The second half was an end to end classic though, as both sides went all out for the win.
The Seasiders began the second period the stronger – only Kasper Schmeichel preventing them from re-taking the lead with a string of fine saves.
At the other end though, ‘Pool’s defence creaked and the Foxes pounced – David Nugent heading Nigel Pearson’s side ahead from a corner after being left completely unmarked.
The Foxes were then surging with confidence and adrenalin, and spurned several chances to put the game out of sight.
With 65 minutes on the clock, Ian Holloway made a double change; Sylvestre replacing Keith Southern and Roman Bednar replacing Neal Eardley.
On 68 minutes, Ludo dissected the away defence with a through ball that found Tom Ince whose cross in turn found Kevin Phillips, but the veteran striker could only head over the bar when he really should have scored.
Just a minute later though, the home side were level; Roman Bednar racing onto a Gary Taylor-Fletcher through ball to score his first goal in tangerine.
Within five minutes the visitors were ahead again though as the game continued to see-saw.
Ben Marshall – who had only been on the pitch for 60 seconds – crossing for Beckford to head home his second.
Bednar then limped off and was repplaced by Lomano Tresor Lua-Lua as Blackpool threw everything at their visitors in a bid to get back in the game.
And get back in it they did: Thomas Ince crossing for Kevin Phillips to score his second in injury time.
The result leaves the Seasiders 5th ahead of their weekend trip to second placed Reading.
