In his press conference today, Neil McDonald told BBC Radio Lancashire that he has had no contact with Sunderland and that he is happy as Blackpool manager.

With Allardyce being revealed as the new Sunderland manager last Friday, many expected McDonald to link up with his former colleague and leave his current role at Blackpool.

However, he swiftly put these rumours to bed in today’s press conference.

He told BBC Radio Lancashire: ‘I’ve had no links whatsoever. I’ve got a brilliant relationship with Sam, so you put two and two together and get five.’

Adding: ‘It’s taken me a long time to become a number one after Carlisle and then helping Sam and myself to enhance our reputations, which we have done.’

‘This is my turn and I’m proud to be Blackpool manager.’

It now appears very unlikely that McDonald is going to leave for Sunderland after so blatantly denying the rumours, but there is the danger that the talk of him leaving may have had a negative effect on the squad.

Let’s hope this isn’t the case and that the team go out and replicate the performances of the last three games this Saturday against Coventry.
