Men In Black

Once again, the curse of the shoddy referee haunted Blackpool on Tuesday night. Most notably when he failed to send Dion Dublin off for nothing short of a reckless ‘challenge’ on ‘Pool goalkeeper Paul Rachubka soon after he put the Canaries 1-0 up.

The man in the middle this week got an average rating of 1.3 with a few varying ratings from the ‘Pool fans on the messageboard.

Here’s a selection of their comments;

BisphamTangerine: As the lowest mark we can give is 1, then it has to be 1. For two reasons –

For allowing Dion Dublin to stay on the pitch when he had tried to break Paul Rachubkas leg when making absolutely no attempt to get the ball.

And for awarding a penalty for something that was not even a foul, never mind a penalty, as it was outside the penalty box.

onefountain: Had Dublin done that to an outfield player further up the pitch, then he’s off in a nanosecond.

No pen of course, but I thought it was a yard inside the area.

Anyway who cares, we failed to come to the party again.

1.5 once he failed to send dublin off all offences thereafter were downgraded.

sandgroanun: 2.5 – poor but not the worst we’ve suffered this season!

Dublin should have gone. No two ways about it, the ball was well gone by the time he decided to lunge in at Rachubka’s legs (note that he slid in straight on, not from the side trying to hook the ball round and keep it in play, therefore indicating it was a deliberate act).

Not a penalty but other errors more than made up for the score of a measly one.

A throw in incident summed it up for me. Dublin (yes he should have been given a straight red) knocked the ball out, moved backwards to defend the throw in then smiled when he realised that they had been given the decision.

Ref less than 5yds away. Blind as a bat.

I thought these idiots would even themselves out over a season, obviously not.

Dublin should have walked.

A number of other ‘heavy’ tackles went unpunished.

Penalty WAS in the area.

Whether it was a penalty or not makes no odds now.

IMO ref awarded it because he knew Dublin should have walked.

nathan7: 1.5 from me, very poor, basic decisions were incorrect although I thought a red for Dublin would have been harsh.
