Ormerod, 29, who left Blackpool in an £1.75m deal for Southampton in 2001 has signed for local rivals Preston North End. Ormerod who hails from Blackburn has signed a contract with the Lillywhites subject to a medical. The foward has signed on free which means that Blackpool won?t receive any sell of fee which was specified in the 2001 transfer to the Saints.
He made 105 league starts at Blackpool scoring 45 league goals after he signed from non-league Accrington Stanley. At Southampton he wasn?t able to recreate any of the form that had seen him become on the lower leagues hottest prospects. In 62 appearances for the Saints he only scored 12 goals.
Speculation for the past month has linked Ormerod with a move back to the Seaside, with allegedly talk being held, but the stumbling block being Ormerod wage demands.
