Ian Holloway has said that the transfer deadline day was a ‘disaster’ after he missed out on countless targets – and then told supporters to have a reality check.
The most galling of players missed was Emile Sinclair – who moved to Peterborough United instead of the Seasiders from Macclesfield Town.
The striker has scored just 17 goals in 86 appearances for Macc in League Two, but Pool failed to land their man.
And the manager chose to have a swipe at disgruntled supporters who believe that the football club should at least be reinvesting the transfer fees received for Charlie Adam and DJ Campbell.
‘Do people not realise Blackpool shouldn’t even have got to the Premier League, considering the budget we were on? The club might never get there again, so I think the fans have been spoilt and that’s why I don’t like some of the things I read. Things like that start poisoning football clubs if they continue and that is dangerous,’ Holloway told the Blackpool Gazette.
‘The truth is that deadline day was frustrating, really frustrating. They normally are, to be fair, but I think this was the worst one I’ve ever been involved with.’
Another target that passed Pool by was Jason Scotland from Ipswich Town. Vital Blackpool broke the news to you first that the Trinidad striker was on the radar and we understand that a loan move could still be in the offing.
Holloway himself is looking to the loan window, as expected, which opens next week.
‘The window is open for us next week,’ he said.
‘We have to wait a week, then there will be loads of people without any money, who can’t afford to pay their players properly. We’ll be able to step in and maybe do some loan deals because the window is different for us.’
