Speaking to the Evening Gazette today Oyston revelled that in his opinion Wellens shouldn?t of been be allowed to leave in the deal that saw Wellens move to Boundary Park and Scott Vernon move to Bloomfield Road.

Oysten went on to explain that he still holds the former Manchester United trainee in high regard and sees Wellens as one of the ?most under-rated talents? in League One.

Wellens still had three years left on his contract at the seaside, but a disagreement with then manager Colin Hendry forced the midfielder out of the club. Oyston also revealed that he personally tried to sort out the ?rift? between the two individuals but was unsuccessful.

Since leaving the club Wellens has made 38 league starts for the Latics and bagged 4 goals and has helped the club to spark a late run to the play-off spots

Oyston also commented about the rumours that had been circulating in the national press and on the internet that Valery Belokon?s investment into the club was around the £20 million mark. Oyston said that the figure quoted was untrue and no official statement would be made until the deal has been finalised.
