Blackpool have officially confirmed that they have signed veteran striker Kevin Phillips – as Vital first reported.

The striker, who turns 38 towards the end of this month, has signed a one year deal with the option of a second and has joined the rest of the first team squad at their Portuguese training camp.

Phillips has been a big hit with supporters of almost all teams he’s played for during his 19-year career and was called up to the England squad on several occasions – making eight appearances for the national side.

During his international career, Phillips plied his trade at Sunderland, where his goals to games ratio was superb – better than one in two.

Since then, the veteran has helped Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion achieve promotion to the Premier League – including a late brace against the Seasiders three years ago to seal an away win for the Baggies when Pool were 2-0 up with 20 minutes remaining.

He joins up with former Southampton team-mates Brett Ormerod and Stephen Crainey at Bloomfield Road.
