Blackpool have made major improvements in the last three games and the squad looks to be one capable of competing, but losing runs have been ruining Pool’s season.

Unbeaten in three and climbing out of the relegation zone has given Blackpool fans at least a slither of optimism, but with Fleetwood Town having two games in hand and Oldham also having a game in hand on Pool, McDonald’s side could very easily get drawn back into the relegation zone.

This weekend’s game will be very tough as Gillingham have been one of the top sides in the league this year, but a result to keep the momentum going is important.

Nevertheless, the three fixtures after Gillingham are far more important games. Oldham away, Shrewsbury at home and then Oldham at home are all winnable games if Blackpool can play to the best of their ability.

Win these three, or at least the two home games and fears of relegation will be slightly eased. Though as we’ve seen this season, Pool are so unpredictable that we don’t know what will happen.

As it stands, Blackpool look capable of staying up but are still only two points clear of the relegation zone and with these important fixtures coming up, it is vital that Pool drag themselves further away and are not scrapping away to stay in the league come the very end of the season.

Losing runs are what’s keeping Pool down there. If the side can develop the ability not to lose a number of games in a row and make sure they are picking up a steady number of points each month then they won’t get relegated, but this is far easier said than done.

These next few games are a critical in deciding Pool’s fate thie season.
