The summer signing from Wolves has been a revelation so far and he fully deserves to lead the team out as Captain.

Edwards is obviously a player Simon Grayson rates highly, handing him the Captain’s armband over loyal Pool servants Keith Southern and Shaun Barker. And given Edwards’ start to his Blackpool career, Grayson’s trust in the former Wolves man looks well placed.

Rob has been a commanding presence at the heart of the defence, bringing the best form we have ever seen from defensive partner Ian Evatt.

Edwards’ composure in possession must have also increased the confidence of Paul Rachubka behind him. No wonder the three wins so far this season have been built upon clean sheets.

Pool lacked a composed central defender last year. Michael Jackson and Kaspars Gorkss both did exceptionally well for Pool but they have different qualities. Neither looked entirely convincing with the ball at his feet.

But Edwards is different. He looks a cut above the rest, and at £275,000, Grayson has bagged a beauty of a bargain.
