Here at Blackpool.VitalFootball we thought up an idea to have a weekly review rounding up all the football news, Pool and non-Pool.
We tried to think of some catchy names for the feature, Tangerine Talk, Pool View, Tangerine Round up, they were all, well?.rubbish. So instead we’ve got a picture of former Pool winger Junior Bent and called it the Bent View.
Transfer window
Always an exciting time for any football club with players moving about, Junior Bent was involved in a transfer move in March 1990 moving from his home town club Huddersfield to Bristol City for a whooping £30,000. Present day 30k sounds like nothing but at the time the magical winger was the most expensive footballer, if you went by MPI (money per inch), standing at 5.05 it worked out as £461 for an inch of Junior.
Simon Grayson has done well in bringing in three players that could be still playing at a higher level. Big Ben Burgess sounds like the pick of the bunch.
Also bringing in a player of international calibre shows the intentions of the club, unfortunately Jorgensen’s level of international football isn`t very good, losing 6-0 to a bunch of raving mad drunken gingers doesn`t say much for his countries team.
And mid week reports have said that Jorgensen has now quit first team football, but no comments have come from Claus himself.
Millwall
Bent was involved in the last meeting between the two sides in 2000 when Pool drew 1-1, Junior was on the subs bench that day, the gaffer said that he was saving Bent till the second half when he could come on an run at the tired Lions. But Darren Byfield who was on loan from Villa at the time got injured the midget was introduced to the action on 22 mins.
To say Junior made an impact on that game would be an understatement, on 37 mins he crossed the ball for Wayne Gill to score a fantastic goal, the fantastic part was the cross, really, he kicked the ball at Wayne and it rebounded of him into the goal.
Junior commented that he always enjoyed playing with Wayne Gill, in his time at the Pool Gill scored 7 goals in 12 games, most of them were from crosses that Bent provided, Gill was dead easy to pick out in the box due to his Duncan Goodhew style haircut.
As for the result on Saturday, it was good but not as good at the result in 2002, fact.
England
Its good to see Stevie McLaren get of to a good start as the England boss in his first two competitive matches. The introduction of Stevie Gerrard on the right with an attacking role was a master stroke and it looks like we will be going into the Euro’s as firm favourites. It`s a shame really that Junior had to hand up his boots, in recent years England had had problems down the wings with a distinct lack of width, Bent was overlooked by Hoddle, Keegen and then Sven, he could have been the solution to the problem.
Bristol Brawl
This week, Scott Brown, Bradley Orr, Steve Brooker and David Partridge were all charged with affray after fighting in Bristol City centre. Orr and Brooker were sent down for a month, Partridge double that and Brown was sentenced to 120 hours community service.
All I’m saying is that it’s a good job that they didn’t pick a fight with Junior Bent otherwise it would have been no more Sunday football for the quartet.
