I don’t need to dress this weekend up in hyperbole; we all know how important it is. Blackpool v Wigan… it could very well be a case of ‘the winner takes it all’.
For what it’s worth, I’m backing the Seasiders to get the win tomorrow. Yes it’ll be tense, fraught and tight, but I think that if we play like we did last weekend then we have enough in our tank to record a vital three points. Verdict: Blackpool 2-1 Wigan.
A win for the Seasiders would move them onto 36 points and leave Wigan adrift on 31, but a win for the Latics would see them move above the Seasiders and see ‘Pool drop into the bottom three for the first time this season. A draw doesn’t really help either side.
The game at Bloomfield Road aside though, let’s take a look at the rest of this weekend’s games that will have an impact on the fight for survival…
Birmingham v Sunderland: Both sides have their fair share of injury problems at present, but Sunderland haven’t won at Birmingham in years and are on a horrible run. For me though, this one has ‘draw’ written all over it.
Verdict: Birmingham 1-1 Sunderland
Everton v Blackburn: The Toffees have guarenteed safety following a recent good run, but Rovers are still right in the thick of it. Steve Kean’s side lie just three points clear of the drop zone, and must do without Ryan Nelsen for the rest of the season through injury. That said, I fancy them to pick up a point at Goodison tomorrow.
Verdict: Everton 1-1 Blackburn
West Ham v Aston Villa: The Hammers occupy the final relegation spot and face a Villa side on the verge of safety. The big question is whether talismanic captain Scott Parker will be fit for the Hammers; he’s currently a doubt for the game, and without him Avram Grant’s side look shambolic.
Verdict: West Ham 1-2 Villa

Midweek sees Birmingham travel to Chelsea, and we fancy the hosts to record a 2-0 win there. Wolves do not play their game in hand until Tuesday 26th April when they travel to Stoke.
