Time for some Math.

Before the start of the Christmas period with the support of his dad, Karl Oyston pledged that any money raised by the Seasiders fans would be tripled and put in the coffers for some new players. Any ticket receipts from home fans over 4000 would count, personnel donations and also monies from the various auctions that have taken place via the official website would be added too.

My math teacher at school, who now who is a trying to have a career as a rock star rather than teaching math told me that maths would come in help one day, this day has come upon me. So with my Casio FX-250HC I?m about to estimate, and I emphasize estimate what has been raised for the Pool?s transfer kitty.

First the Oldham game was cancelled due to the pitch, which now resembles Lytham beach, being frozen. So do we add any money to the pot for that game? At this moment, no, but one presumes that the money to be raised from that game will be added to the total.

From the Southend Game massive 5,271 viewed the spectacle, out of that 274 came from Southend. Meaning that there were 4997 home spectators, let?s now document that as you get nothing for not showing your workings out.

5271 ? 274 = 4997

Now only ticket receipts over the 4000 would be counted, so 4000 minus 4997 works out at 997.

4000 ? 4997 = 997

Now how does this bit work out? How much is a ticket at Bloomfield Road to see a League One match? Well for the Southend match anybody under the age of 18 could gain entry for a pound. If you do that calculation it means a massive £997 was raised, triple that, makes £2991.

Now I looked on Amazon and for that amount you could get a 37 inch LCD HD ready TV have a bit spare to buy a couple of iPods. Now I can?t remember the last time I bought a professional footballer, in fact I don?t think I have, but I?m sure that £2991 won?t buy you a good one. It would however buy you half of James Constable, the Walsall striker who is set to join the club for a fee of £4,000 from Chippenham Town.

Back to the calculations

The average price for an adult to go to a match at Bloomfield Road is around £17, so cue the math, could have done with enlisting the help of Carole Vorderman for this.

17 * 997 = 16949

Now triple that.

16949 * 3 = 50847

Wow, £50,847 now we are talking, a cool £50k can buy you a half decent player at this level. A certain Mr B Ormerod signed for £50k from Accrington Stanley or a John Spicer or a Paul Shields and a Duane Courtney.

As we know we don?t pay agents fees, but some money will be used to pay the players wages, so I think we aren?t expecting all the money to be spent on the fee alone. But it shows that if you pay a bit of money you get a bit of class. John Spicer who signed for Burnley from Bournemouth for £35k has since cemented his place in a Championship side and bagged four goals for the Clarets.

Now lets say if the same amount is raised from the Oldham match, this gives us about £100k in total. Add to that donations and money raised from auctions, maybe erm?£25K a total of £125,000 is realistic.

So with that in mind who ever signed for the Seasiders better be worth it. Be that Paul Heckingbottom or Graeme Lee or Dion Dublin, just some of the names that have been mentioned, they are going to have a lot resting on their shoulders as pretty much at the moment we are relaying on them to drag the team out of the dreaded bottom four.

*I?d just like to mention that these figures, might be and most likely are totally rubbish, and for that I blame my math teacher who in class used to concentrate more on being a rock star than teaching me math.
