Following the false news reports last week that stated that Blackpool midfielder David Vaughan had agreed a move to Sunderland, Vaughany himself has given an interview where he states that he will take his time deciding on his future.
The 28 year old Welsh international is out of contract at Bloomfield Road this summer and is very unlikely to sign a new deal with Ian Holloway’s side following both their relegation from the Premier League and the club dragging their heels when it came to offering him a new contract.
Whilst David still has an offer from the Seasiders on the table, he admits that he is agent is currently trying to drum up interest in his services:
‘I’m just talking to Blackpool and one or two other clubs. Hopefully I will make my decision in a couple of weeks.
‘Sunderland is a possibility but I am leaving everything to my agent and once I have some concrete offers I’ll decide where I want to go.’
However, despite listing Sunderland as a ‘possibility’, it is Vital’s understanding that, as it stands, David is unlikely to sign for Steve Bruce’s side.
Vaughany also confirmed that Rangers have made an approach for him, but that he would prefer to remain in the Premier League:
‘I know Rangers are a massive club. It would be great to have the chance to play for them.
‘I was surprised when my agent told me there was interest from Rangers. It’s pleasing and if there was an offer I’d have to consider it.
‘Playing Champions League football is obviously something I’d have to take into consideration. It’s probably the biggest decision of my life.
‘Obviously [though] players want to play in the Premier League and hopefully that will be the case for me next season.’
A host of clubs have been continually linked with ‘Pool’s midfield maestro, including Everton, Bolton and Wigan.
However, one club that hasn’t been linked by the press so much, yet Vital understands could be working on a move for Vaughany, are Stoke City.
The Potters obviously have European football to look forward to next season, but they might also appeal to David because his family are from the Crewe area.
