Blackpool have rejected a derisory offer for captain Charlie Adam from Aston Villa, reports Sky Sports.

The midfielder has been in sparkling form in his quarterback role for the Seasiders since promotion in May.

Adam has played 64 times for Pool since joining from Rangers in 2009. The fee paid to the Scottish club was £500,000 but after an impressive 23 goals in that time, Ian Holloway will want substantially more than the figure offered by Villa.

The fee being talked about by Sky (who, we all know, can sometimes jump the gun on transfer news, especially in January) was in the region of £2.5m – a similar figure to the bids made by Middlesbrough this time last year.

Holloway has said that he doesn’t need to sell anybody in the transfer window and won’t be looking to do so unless one of the ‘big four’ come sniffing.

And with Adam’s stock rising as the season progresses, it would perhaps be in Blackpool’s best interests to hold on to their linchpin until at least the summer.

We’ll have to wait and see if that is the case, but all bids of under £5m (with Villa’s rivals Birmingham also interested) will be promptly laughed at.
