What type of players do we really need?

The opening fixture of the 2013-14 football season is now just three weeks away, and Paul Ince has a lot of work left to do to get a team together and ready for the game against Doncaster on 3rd August. But will just any player do to get the team competing at the top of the division?

Speculation is flying around about bid made of to be made for Paul Caddis from Swindon Town and Tyrone Barnett from Peterborough, but are these the type of players that we really need to replace possibly one of the best Blackpool squads of recent times?

Alex Baptiste, Ludo Sylvestre, Stephen Crainey, Neal Eardley have all opted not to take their new contract offers, and with Taylor-Fletcher training with Sheffield Wednesday, it looks like another player will be lost.

Of last years squad that was out of contract Barry Ferguson and Kirk Broadfoot have both re-signed their new contract offers, Gary MacKenzie has signed a permanent deal from MK Dons.

So where do we need to strengthen the squad? One of the areas that is needed strengthening is a striker with enough firepower to score into double figures, an area that has been lacking since DJ Campbell. So can Paul Caddis fill this space? Or do we need to look higher to get a player to fill this space? With other clubs all strengthening their squads can we compete to get the strikers that we really need?

Another area where more competition is required is defence, with top players leaving this summer, do we have enough competition for places? or will players just become complacent?

Have your say in the message board, and we will take a look at those in some scouting reports
