Simon Grayson started the match without 8 players, Tayor-Fletcher, Martin, Jorgensen, Kay, Coid, Crainey, Evatt and new signing Adam Hammill. Two trialists were in the starting line up, former Reading full back John Halls and former Saints defender Darren Powell. A calf injury in the pre match warm up for Powell meant he was replaced by Shaun Barker who seems to be now the first choice centre back with the probable exit of Kaspars Gorkss.

Pool started in a 4-4-2 formation: Paul Rachubka, John Halls, Alex John-Baptiste, Shaun Barker, Marlon Broomes, Jermaine Wright, Keith Southern, Stephen McPhee, Stuart Green, Steve Kabba, Ben Burgess

Wrexham had beaten Wolves 1-0 a couple of weeks ago so Pool were in for a tough time and it was the home side that looked like scoring first. Sam Aiston fired high and wide at the far post, Rachubka denied Williams and Baynes later on in the half.

Wrexham changed all but two players at half time, Pool replaced Rachubka with Gilks and Halls with Fox. The start of the second half Pool had a couple of chances McPhee firing over after being set free by Green and then Green with his own opportunity forcing Ward to make a save to his left.

Both sides had chances later in the game to break the deadlock. For Pool a Burgess header straight at Ward, Fox`s snap shot forcing a save from Ward, Steven Kabba`s shot blocked by Ward. For Wrexham Spann`s shot tipped over by GIlks. Dominic Morell replaced Stuart Green on 77 and Michael D’agostino replaced Burgess also on 77. Seven players finished the full 90 minutes.
