Alex Baptiste took last week’s play-off defeat to West Ham United a little harder than others.

The central defender, who has been a stand-out performer for Blackpool throughout the hugely successful campaign, attacked the Hammers’ style of football immediately after the final. And now, in the local press, the 26-year-old has lambasted ‘bigger’ clubs for not courting the services of Ian Holloway.

‘People don’t realise what our manager has done,’ he told the Gazette. ‘Given how we played at Wembley, how the manager doesn’t get mentioned with Liverpool and other clubs I just don’t know.

‘I just wish he’d get the credit he should.’

Although Baps did go on to say he was by no way touting Holloway out for job opportunities, he is perhaps best to book a sun lounger for the coming weeks, relax and watch England’s inevitable European doom from a beach.

Unfortunately, amid his whirlwind of fury, Baptiste also said: ‘I feel sick of this game. It is doing my head in how people can get away with things, how people can earn so much money when they play half the football we do.’

But, after his monumental efforts for the club during what was a terrifically long season, Baptiste deserves a long holiday, well away from dictaphones.

Why? Because he’ll have to do this all over again come August 18.
