Last season was a nightmare for Chris Basham.

After completing his £1 million move from Bolton to the Seasiders he found opportunities limited, and then in a reserve team game in November he broke his leg, missing the rest of the season bar a few reserve team games.

After spending the past few months getting fully fit again though, Basham is determined to prove his worth to the Seasiders this term, and knows that big things are expected of him.

However, he faces a real challenge to get into the side; he can play at centre back, right back and as a defensive midfielder, but he probably finds himself down the pecking order for each because of Ian Evatt, Alex Baptiste, Craig Cathcart, Neal Eardley and Keith Southern respectively. The onus is very much upon Basham to have a good pre-season and force his way into the side.

Speaking about the coming season to the official website, Basham said:

‘It’s the most excited I’ve been for a long time because it’s a fresh start for me. I’m looking forward to getting back fighting fit so that I’m match fit for the first game against Hull.

‘I’ve done a lot over the summer and I booked a hotel with a gym when I went away so that I could really kick on.

‘I need to have a good season, there’s no doubt about that. That’s why I’m so excited about it because I know what I can do and I need to now put my boots on and show everybody at Blackpool.

‘Wherever the gaffer calls on me I’ll play there. Hopefully we can prove how good we are.’
