The Blackpool Supporters Trust have registered a bid worth £16 million to buy Blackpool Football Club. The offer includes the handing back of assets to the Oyston’s such as the Travelodge near the stadium worth £6.5 million and the handing back of £3 million worth of loans to Oyston businesses along with £4.7 million from the club accounts also being returned to the family.

Whilst the offer effectively returns cash surrounding the club to Oyston, the bid contains no additional money which may prove a potential stumbling block for the Oyston’s who are likely to want to receive a decent sum for the handing over of the club. The offer could however be the start of future negotiations with the current owners and fans could begin to see real progress made.

Speaking to the press at the launch of the bid, BST Chairman Steve Rowley said: ‘If Owen Oyston really does have the best interest of Blackpool FC at heart he will see this as a perfect chance to bring to an end a toxic situation. This is a financially sound offer for Blackpool Football Club.’

The BST certainly have the backing of the fans who have taken to social media to support the trust in their bid. Whilst it is believed that Oyston will reject the opening offer, any action to ensure the club could be run better for the fans can only be positive. I’m sure I speak for the majority of fans when I wish the BST the best of luck with their attempts to buy Blackpool Football Club.
