Captain who?

With Michael Jackson lining up for Shrewsbury Town this season who will take the captain’s armband for Blackpool this year?

The smart money is surely on Shaun Barker to skipper the Seasiders. The defender was captain last season when Jackson wasn’t in the team and he would expect to be given the nod this time around. Barker has been an excellent signing for Blackpool. He has been a virtual ever present in the side since his arrival from Rotherham two summer’s ago. Few would argue against Shaun deservedly taking the captain’s armband this year.

Barker’s rivals could be his defensive partner Ian Evatt, long-serving midfielder Keith Southern, or new signing Marlon Broomes.

Southern has captained Blackpool before and his never-say-die attitude and excellent work rate are undoubtedly an inspiration to the rest of the squad. He could well be a captain in the making.

Ian Evatt, a true rock at the heart of the defence, could be a contender for captain. He is a great physical presence in the team though whether his organisational skills match his physique remains to be proved.

An outside bet for captain could be new signing Marlon Broomes. The defender has bags of experience in the Championship and would follow in former skipper Michael Jackson’s footsteps if he captain’s the club after spending time at Preston.

Simon Grayson has yet to confirm his captain for the new season. Who do you think he will plump for?
