So Mick McCarthy’s Wolves, who are top of the league, were the busiest side in the Championship on deadline day. Wolves signed Matt Hill and Jason Shackell to bolster their defence and let striker Stephen Elliott leave to join Preston.

Burnley and Plymouth, both struggling near the bottom of the table, have both moved to strengthen their respective strikeforces. Ex-Manchester City and Belgian international forward Mpenza is an eye-catching signing for Argyle.

Clubs can sign players on loan deals again starting from next week.
