Welsh, previously of Sunderland and Toronto FC (from MLS in the USA), played in 21 of Blackpool’s Championship games last season, mostly coming off the bench as a replacement for Gary Taylor-Fletcher, before he was released over the summer by manager Simon Grayson as part of a major overhaul of the first team squad.
Town manager Russell Slade revealed the news to the Somerset press; ‘We’ve verbally agreed terms. Two other clubs dearly wanted him so I hope he hasn’t changed his mind.’
He is set to undergo a medical at Huish Park tomorrow (Thursday) ahead of signing a contract with the side that ‘Pool won promotion to The Championship against back in May 2007.
