Southampton have this evening completed the signing of Chelsea midfielder Jack Cork, apparently beating off the likes of the Seasiders and Burnley to his signature.

According to reports in the North West earlier this summer, all three clubs had offers accepted for the highly rated 23 year old and Burnley were considered the favourites to land him considering the success of his loan spells at Turf Moor.

However, it would appear that the financial backing behind Southampton manager Nigel Adkins has won the day and Cork has signed a four year deal on the South coast.

Although the Seasiders may not have got their man this time, it is reassuring that we are being linked with the likes of Cork who is exactly the type of player that we need.

Despite this apparent knock-back, it is expected to be a busy day at Bloomfield Road tomorrow – not only are the squad jetting out to Portugal for a training camp, but they are expected to be joined by several new faces.

As always we’ll have all the news as it happens here on Vital, but stay tuned tonight for a new Scout Report on another midfielder who the Seasiders would perhaps do well to take a look at.
