Blackpool’s unbeaten pre-season run came to an end as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat against League Two Crewe at Gresty Road.

The Seasiders looked jaded throughout despite the inclusion of three trialists, believed to be Razak Omotoyossi, Sunny and Laurent Merlin. 22 year old James Williams-Richardson from Maidenhead United was not included despite the fact that he is believed to be training with the Seasiders.

Indeed, if it wasn’t for a fine performance by goalkeeper Matt Gilks, then the defeat would have been far worse.

The player believed to be Omotoyossi had the first chance of the game, jinking past two defenders before firing wide.

Gary Taylor-Fletcher then had a chance for the Seasiders, before Crewe started to get a hold on the game, with Gilks making a fine save from Ashley Westwood whilst Donaldson squandered several chances.

However, Crewe took the lead ten minutes before the break through a very well rehearsed set piece. Shaun Miller the scorer.

Charlie Adam then hit the bar before Gilks made another fine save, this time from Miller.

Despite numerous changes by the Seasiders at half time, it was Crewe who started the second half stronger; Matt Gilks being called into action again to deny Shaun Miller.

The Seasiders were then rocked by another blow as Neal Eardley limped out of action. It has been reported that his injury is not too serious, thankfully.

Matt Gilks made another save late on, but the second half was pedestrian for large parts.

Such a heavy legged display further highlights the need for the Seasiders to make signings. And fast.
