DJ Campbell has answered Pool’s striker SOS by signing on loan until May. He will add further firepower to a beleagured frontline.

The pacy 27-year-old made his name at Brentford having spent the early part of his career in non-league football.

He caught the eye of then Premier League Birmingham City in 2006 and signed for the Blues for £500,000. He scored 12 goals for Birmingham in just under 50 appearances before moving to Leicester City for £1.6 million in July 2007.

He has struggled to make an impact with the Foxes but Tony Parkes has given Campbell another chance to prove himself at Championship level. DJ is expected to make his debut for Blackpool against one of his former clubs Birmingham at Bloomfield Road on Saturday. Expect to see the Big man little man combination used upfront with Campbell slotting in alongside Ben Burgess.

This looks very much like a panic signing to me. As a Leicester fan I’ve seen enough of DJ in the last two seasons to know he isn’t good enough for the Championship. I hope he does well for you though and proves us all wrong.

Oh, and expect lots of offsides!
