It was predicted Ian Evatt wouldn`t feature again this year after picking up a knee, ankle, shin injury in the Colchester match at Bloomfield Road. After a second opinion from a specialist the predicted time on the sideline was shortened and Evatt has been back at the training this week.

Speaking to the Evening Gazette the former QPR defender was upbeat, ‘I can jog and I even tried some proper running in training yesterday, though it’s just a little too soon for that.

‘But I’m stepping things up and all being well I’ll be back sometime next month.’

Evatt has even set a date for a return ‘I’m hoping I’ll be right by November 19 – that’s my birthday and it would be a nice present!’ which would put him back in contention for the away game at Southampton on the 24th.

In Evatt`s absence Kaspars Gorkss stepped up but missed the last match due to a sending off at Coventry. Kaspars will be looking to regain his place in the side ousting loanee Matt Jackson. Gorkss was involved tonight in the Latvia V Denmark Euro 2008 qualifier in Copenhagen. The Latvians went down 3-1, Gorkss made his impact with the away sides goal in the second half.
