The official website have in the last few minutes confirmed that Blackpool goalkeeper Matt Gilks has signed a new contract with the club.

There has been much speculation over the past 48 hours that the 29 year old would be signing a new deal with the club, and he has indeed now penned a new two year deal with a year’s option at the club.

Gilks impressed many with his performances in the Premier League last season, but it was widely expected that he would be moving on having attracted interest from elsewhere and especially after publically criticising the club for a lack of ambition.

However, despite those comments, both parties have worked hard on a deal that significantly improves the keeper’s pay, and Gilks will now fly out with the rest of the first team squad to Portugal for their training camp.
