Former Blackpool left back Ian Harte has joined SPL side St. Mirren.

The 31-year-old, whose contract was terminated by mutual consent by The Seasiders on Monday, has signed on for The Buddies until the end of the season.

Terminating Harte’s contract gave the former Ireland international the week to think a move over instead of a deadline day rush; he met and agreed a deal with St. Mirren on Thursday.

The cultured defender played five times for ‘Pool, and his agent, Willie McKay, has been having his say on the move: ‘It will be a coup for them,

‘Celtic were prepared to pay £2m for him two years ago.

‘Ian has had a great career,’
he said. ‘Money is not the objective. He wants to play football and to play for a team that wants him.

‘Ian has been played well for Blackpool and Gus was first on the phone when he left there.

‘He was just filling in there because their other two left-backs were injured, but they are coming back now and they could not afford to keep him.’
