Could today be the day we find out who is Blackpool’s new manager?

Interviews for the job, according to Chairman Karl Oyston, finished at noon yesterday.

However, the local press are this morning reporting that there is an outstanding candidate who has just thrown his hat into the ring for the top job at Bloomfield Road.

If the mystery man is being interviewed today, an announcement on the new gaffer could be put back until tomorrow.

But who could this new man be? As he’s being given an interview today, we could assume that he is fairly high profile, with the Gazette stating names such as Paul Ince, Dennis Wise and the highly popular Aidy Boothroyd.

Incidentally, Boothroyd’s odds have shortened from 12/1 to 8’s overnight.

Others have gone for lower key managers, with reports in Scotland suggesting former ‘Pool skipper Brian Reid is in for an interview.

Jim Gannon is also a name who won’t go away.

The one manager who has disappeared in the last day or two is Jim Magilton. The former Ipswich boss had previously been mentioned as a front runner in the press; could it be that he is in the frame?

The arrival of another name on the scene has thrown this wide open, with all the aforementioned a possibility, and they go alongside the five rumoured to be on the initial shortlist: Ian Holloway, Steve Thompson, Alan Knill, Andy Ritchie and Gary Brabin.

Radio Lancashire are reporting that Ian Holloway is set to be announced the new manager, but we shall see.
